Clonmel Ratings

Clonmel was the first Irish racecourse I ever visited. We'd rented a cottage at a place called Ballyporeen, which was just across the road from a guy that trained greyhounds to race.

That was probably one of the best holidays I've ever had....certainly different! You see things and do things over there that you'd never do at home. Like getting stuck on a road behind hundreds of horses being taken to market for sale, or looking forward to it getting dark so you could go and lay down on the grass and just stare up at the sly because it was so clear and you could see millions of stars.

Over 30 years ago and I remember more about that fortnight away than many others I've had since.

Never backed a single winner but I recall it was a seriously hot day and we had a ball.

I'd be looking at the racing there today and cringe under normal circumstances. My two rated races have just one horse having won on the ground as currently described. The first two races sees 32 horses that have never won a race at all careering around that track and I sit here thinking about the comments I make about there being far to many bad horses in training this side of the Irish Sea!

I imagine the layers will make enough to fill the petrol tanks of those Bentaygas I joked about the other day.

It cannot be long, surely, before someone over there realises that the two meters people are now supposed to be apart cannot be practised....when in the starting stalls the jockeys are on top of each other and in the race itself, virtually touching in some instances.

Whilst it does though, I'll continue to amaze myself by the accuracy of the Ratings. First day of the Irish flat season and again we find a double figure priced winner in my top three Rated.

The Overnight Market Movers again found winners, too....that first winner looked the worst kept secret over there! Heck of a starting price, all things considered.

Two more Overnight Market Movers have been added to those I gave you last night but right now they just highlight how bonkers things are over there.....both being punted from massive early prices.

Remember.....fun punting only!

CHARITABLE DONATIONS

On the website I've left the direct links to those charities donation pages in The Specials section. If you make a tenner, pick one and drop £1 in their pot, please.

Have a great day!!
